Mercure Hotel Fiji Goes Green

THE Mercure Hotel in Nadi - one of the worldwide Accor Hotels group who have a 65 point environmental charter. The Fiji hotel has introduced a series of measures to reduce and recycle waste, which includes separate collection points for metal cans, plastic, glass and paper and the composting of organic waste from the restaurant. It also provides its guests with the option of reusing towels and bed linen. Vegetable gardens have also been created to provide supplies of organic produce for the kitchen. The popular Mercure hotel in Nadi has participated in Accor's Worldwide 'Earth Guest Day' and 'Earth Hour' for the past two years.

GOOD news for Canadian travellers wishing to visit Fiji Islands in the South Pacific. Air Pacific (Fiji's national airline) and Alaska Airlines have announced a code-sharing agreement that will allow a seamless flight arrangement from Vancouver to Nadi via Los Angeles. Luggage will be able to be booked all the way through, facilitating the change of plane at LAX. Boarding passes will be issued in Vancouver for both sectors.

'Tui Nunu' (Fijian for Master Diver), a 9.5 metre aluminium cuddy cabin boat, has been custom made especially for divers and for Paradise Taveuni.
