On Friday 9th November 2007 most offices and businesses close in Fiji to commemorate the Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali (also known as Deepawali). Fiji's population is comprised of approximately 48% of Indians or Indo-Fijians, so the Hindu culture is very strong. It is rightly recognised and Diwali is the most important cultural/religious date in the Hindu calendar, such as Christmas is to the Christians. Indo-Fijian homes and business premises will be brightly illuminated with flashing lights and firecrackers are usually set off to celebrate this happy festival.

The other major participating resort has been the Savusavu Hot Springs Hotel.
Following the success of the previous two festivals, many local businesses in the area have been pleased to also help sponsor the event.

Monday 9th October 2006 has dawned in Fiji with a forecast for a cloudy day with occasional rain. However, this is unlikely to dampen the spirits of the Fiji nation and its thousands of visitors, who are celebrating Fiji Day in style.
The nation's capital - Suva - has been the scene of a week-long Melanesian Multicural Arts Festival, with arts and culture exhibitions, dancing displays, song, culinary preparation, and other related cultural activities.
Nations taking part included the host nation of Fiji Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and Solomon Islands.
At 10 am there will be formal parade by the Fiji Military Forces personnel at Albert Park. Local public and tourists alike will be able to enjoy entertainment from the various communities - Fijian, Rotuman, Indian, Chinese, Wallis and Futuna, and Banaban.
It is a time for a bringing together of ideas, arts, and traditions of the various cultures living together in the South-West Pacific region, in a showcase event to be enjoyed by all. Fiji Day marks the closing of the week-long Festival.

Voyage under sail to participate in a bizarre curiosity of the South Pacific. Ride with Fijian islanders before dawn, under a full moon, in their open boats to a distant reef. Help them scoop the caviar of the Pacific from the water when it rises to the surface. This is an event that can only be seen in Fiji or Samoa. The balolo is a thin worm, found in the coral reef, considered a culinary delicacy in the islands. The Rising occurs only in the last quarter of the moon in October and November each year. It has never failed to appear on time for over 100 years.
